Promise You Will Sing About Me – Video Installation

Strategic challenge
How can we rethink the idea of a monument in the 21st century and explore new ways of remembering and storytelling in public space?

Insight
Monuments often take the form of sculptures and statues. But memory can also be passed on through music, imagery and language. By combining these forms, we can create new cultural expressions that resonate with current and future generations.

Approach
As Project Manager and Producer, I supported curators Vincent van Velsen and Seán Hannan in realizing Promise You Will Sing About Me: a temporary video installation projected on the iconic Koppelpoort in Amersfoort. For three evenings only, the city’s medieval gate transformed into a monumental screen, presenting a layered artwork of film, archive imagery, and live music.

The project included a newly commissioned track by rapper and label director Jiggy Djé, produced by Ramiks, with contributions from multidisciplinary performer Otion. Together, their music, combined with imagery and the words of James Baldwin, reflected on memory, time, and the way society writes its history.

Impact
• Large-scale public projection that engaged diverse audiences in Amersfoort
• Collaboration with leading artists and cultural figures from music and performance
• Sparked cultural debate on how history and memory are represented in the present day
• Positioned art and music as alternative monuments, resonating beyond traditional forms
